Advocacy Lead

Position: Advocacy Lead (Alternate titles: Advocacy Coordinator; VP  Advocacy)  

Location: Ottawa, Canada 
Salary: unpaid; voluntary  
Number of hours: 1-5 hours/week  
Position overview
As part of the executive leadership team, the Advocacy Lead is responsible for ensuring that EWB Ottawa uses our location to an advantage and pursues National Initiatives put forth by the National Office as well as keeping the chapter informed on policy changes that could affect our work and international development. This includes keeping open communication between National Office Advocacy Leads and Distributed Team, Running local initiative campaigns, etc.
General involvement/participation in EWB Ottawa Chapter activities that are not necessarily part of the regular position duties is expected (i.e. Annual fundraiser, member learning, etc.)
Roles & Responsibilities  
  • Supporting the Co-Presidents on the day-to-day operations of the Chapter
  • Ensuring successful coordination and logistics of workshops and events
  • Serving as the chair of executive leadership team meetings
  • Works closely with the Advocacy Nation Team (ANT) to create change in the Canadian government by working with local MPs andf engaging with local media
  • Communicating with the advocacy contacts at the National Office, Advocacy National Team, Advocacy Distributed Team, and other Chapters
  • Contributing to national campaign initiatives
  • Work with Communications Officer to make Advocacy content available online
This position does not require any specific experience, however it is considered an asset if the candidate has any of the following experience:
  • Event planning/coordination
  • Logistics and event management
  • Prior EWB-related involvement (student/city chapter, national office, social change fellow, etc)
